Fashion is the only language which most young people know, not just in South Africa but globally. New fashion trends come up every day and we as young people try as hard as we can to follow them but then the reality is fashion changes every time. We try so hard to “keep up with the time” that we forget about our morals, ethics and culture as black people.
During the 20th century fashion was simple, men wore pants and women wore dresses or skirts because that’s how things are/were. Then fashion designers decided to add some “spice” and they made pants that were meant for women which was seen as a disgrace. Women stood up for themselves and brought up fancy words like “feminism” and they won the battle making most women to wear pants instead of trousers.
Nowadays (21st century) fashion has changed to an extent that men now actually wear skirts and dresses which I think is an insult to our morals but then again women started this whole thing when they demanded equality in terms of sexuality. This shows that not only did we change from the 20th to the 21st century but also that the way we as people behave in terms of thinking and dressing has also changed.
This is so true fashion is changing, in fact has changed...leaving our morals behind and even end up wondering where we're really going in this world.
ReplyDeleteIt is true, we live in different times, its no longer about "ladies" or "mens" clothing...People now choose to wear what they feel comfortable wearing regardless of how the society will see them.

ReplyDeleteIt is exactly the way you just said it is. I like the part where you said WE try to "keep up with time", and when we do that we focus much on the language as you say which evolves daily and then we forget about the Values and Morals.

This fashion thing really had a huge impact in our culture , beliefs and morals. In the above mentioned century(20th) it was a disgrace to be seen by people in your under wears but now people more especially females they even go in public events in their under wears like mini skirts, bum shorts to mention few.
ReplyDeleteTrue that, many people have changed not only because they want to, but through peer pressure and that makes lot of them to run away from their ethical motive. BLACK PEOPLE, we need to be who we are and live the life that we afford to live.
ReplyDeleteThe reality is that everyone do not want to be behind time. Everyone wants to race with the fashion. Fashion is the survival of the fittest. Only the rich can survive. What I do not like about this fashion thing is that the children force their parents to buy them expensive clothes yet they are not the survivors of the fittest.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, we all want to be there like to that high level, some people wear things that they are not even confident in wearing but because they don`t want to be seen as people who are old fashioned they wear them.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I feel like if you are comfortable and you are presentable then all is good. In pants, trousers, skirt, shorts or a dress it doesn't mattter
